Q: I've finally realized my decades-long dream and bought a 1969 Ford Fairlane, a real sweet Cobra 428 in pristine condition. I've had it added to my regular auto insurance policy, but the price seems high to me. Should I insure this new baby with a specialty classic car insurance company? And if I do, will it save me money?

A: The answer to this is a definite maybe. There's a good chance that going with a company that deals specifically in specialty classic car insurance, and vintage autos will save you a lot of money. Less than half the collector, and antique autos on the road today are insured by specialty classic car policies, but many of those owners are paying higher premiums than they should and getting more restricted policies. Classic and vintage cars are used differently, cared for differently, and sometimes garaged differently than regular cars, and because they usually appreciate in value rather than depreciating like a regular car, many regular auto insurance companies don't know how to value or cover them. Shop around and get several quotes to get the best rates and coverage for your new baby.
