A Seniors safe driver course is a refresher course for older adults. Also called a Driver Safety Course or a Driver Improvement Course, it's an in-person or online class designed to help drivers over 50 sharpen their road skills—and lower their auto insurance rates.

38 US states and the District of Columbia require insurance companies to give discounts to senior drivers who successfully complete a Safe Driver Course. Some states require you to take the class in person; others accept completion of an online course. In other states, insurance companies may offer discounts for taking the course even though they're not required to.

Seniors safe driver courses are offered frequently by AARP and local AAA branches as well as some community colleges, university extension programs and senior centers.
